Most of the world has denounced Isis for their hatred of "other" and brutal killings of journalists, soldiers, and peace-workers, to name a few. A video was released showing the destruction of what Isis deems "non-Islamic" artifacts in Iran (4). The artifacts destroyed are thousands of years old and beyond priceless. The disregard Isis has for human life is despicable. It's impossible to imagine their level of hatred. However, the disregard they have for human civilization and culture, is downright unacceptable. Isis is performing acts of terror against the entire world by destroying these true beacons of history—affecting our children and ancestors alike.
“In front of something like this, we are speechless,” said Gabriel. “Murder of people and destruction is not enough, so even our civilisation and the culture of our people is being destroyed.” (4)
Isis tries to spread terror and the best way to combat terror is to not fear. Continuing to create a future that holds history at high esteem can overturn hatred. Raising generations to honor and preserve art and continuing to create displays of individual beliefs can educate the world about our differences and celebrate them. There will always be a critic standing by, but as the artist, as the community, as the nation, as the world...we must persevere.
